South Africa – Why Go?

In this beautiful country visitors can't help but devote a few zillion brain cells to storing images of its grandeur: its striking Table Mountain backdrop, its glorious beaches and enchanting vineyards, its rugged landscapes and its strange and wonderful plants, birds and animals.

CAPE TOWN

Cape Town's setting is one of the world's most stunning, renowned for the world-famous Table Mountain, Robbyn Island, vast wine lands and the most exquisite coastline.

Tourism wise, Cape Town has an embarrassment of riches. With the striking Table Mountain as a backdrop, beautiful beaches and a relaxed and cosmopolitan atmosphere, it is no wonder Cape Town is attracting more visitors than ever. The city also boasts historical buildings, interesting museums, shopping malls, restaurants, jazz cafés, theatres and nightclubs. On top of this, there are glorious beaches and charming vineyards along the pristine coastline, and the spectacular Cape of Good Hope 70km south of the city.

OUDTSHOORN

Oudtshoorn is the tourist capital of the Little Karoo and the ostrich capital of South Africa, with thousands of the beady-eyed birds all over the place. With big bodies but small brains, these long-legged monsters eat pebbles to aid digestion and are particularly attracted to the odd earring or glinting necklace from unsuspecting tourists! There's also an export demand for ostrich eggs, just one of which makes an omelette for 20 people and at the show farms you can ride the birds in an absolute wacky manner. You can also visit the fascinating Cango Caves of stalagmites and stalactites.

HERMANUS

Hermanus - Tucked between mountain and sea and featuring flower covered hiking trails, a number of beaches, two lagoons and a meandering wine valley, Hermanus is one of the most popular destinations of South Africa. A bustling harbour town on the edge of Walker Bay, Hermanus is not short of shopping opportunities or lively bars and restaurants to check out. But the main attraction is between July and November, when the Southern Right Whales come to the South African coast to mate and calve, with calving usually happening during August and September, and the pinnacle of the whale season taking place between August and October.

A cliff path, stretching from one side of the town to the other, hugs the coastline for about 12km and gives whale-watchers unlimited opportunities to study these gentle giants in beautiful Walker Bay. Hermanus boasts the best land-based whale-watching in the world, and offers boat-based whale-watching to get you even closer to the whales.

Entabeni - The award winning 12,000 hectare Entabeni Game Reserve is situated in the magnificent Waterberg, a comfortable 3 hrs drive from Johannesburg. Unique features of this area include spectacular scenery consisting of grasslands surrounded by mountains, a 2km long lake, a 2000ft escarpment, diverse wildlife and game viewing. Nestled against the majestic cliffs of the Waterberg Mountain you can experience the wild side of the bush at Wildside Camp.
